Final Preparation for the CPA Exam and Stress Management

(SmartPros) The most successful test takers ease up on studying as the test date approaches. It is important for test takers to be relaxed and ready for the exam on test day.

Approaching the exam with a rested and uncluttered mind will help you perform effectively.

The CPA exam is long and requires endurance. Each part of the exam is allotted approximately four hours and breaks are not provided. The following are some tips to help you make it through exam day.

•    Relax. You have been working hard studying for the exam. Have faith in your efforts. Stay calm and focus on the task at hand.

•    Keep track of the time allotted for each question. Many exam takers spend too much time on questions they don't know and end up running out of time. Be conscious of the time and use each minute wisely.

•    Wear comfortable clothing. If you have a favorite shirt, pair of jeans or sweater, wear it. Make sure you have layers so that you can adjust your clothing to the room temperature. Set your clothes out the night before. It's one less thing to worry about on exam day.

•    Get directions. Make sure you have clear, easy to follow directions and don't forget to fill up with gas the night before.

•    Get plenty of rest. Hang out at home or have a relaxing dinner. It's important to get a good night's sleep.

•    Know the terrain. If possible, visit the test site a few days prior to the exam. This will help to relieve some of your anxiety.

•    Give yourself time. On the morning of the test, make sure you have ample time to relax in order for you have a clear head during the eExam.

•    Eat breakfast. Have a light breakfast with protein.

•    Arrive early. Plan on arriving at the test site at least half an hour early to both familiarize yourself with the test site and to ensure unforeseen events will not prevent you from arriving at the site on time. (Some states may close their doors a half an hour before the test will begin. Know your state's rules so that you can make it on time.)

Make sure that you prepare well in advance for the day of the CPA exam so that you can focus all your energy on doing well. This will also help to relieve some of your anxiety. Don't forget to bring extra pencils and an eraser. Good luck!
