President Clinton Nominates E&Y Exec for Social Security Advisory Board WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 10, 2000 (SmartPros) If President Clinton has his way, the director of national tax for Big Five firm Ernst & Young will take a seat on the Social Security Advisory Board. President Clinton has nominated Mark A. Weinberger to serve as a member of the Social Security Advisory Board, said E&Y. The decision now rests in the hands of the Senate Finance Committee and the full U.S. Senate, who are expected to make their choice within the next few weeks. The Social Security Advisory Board, created in 1994, is an independent, bi-partisan Board that is responsible for advising the President, Congress, and the Commissioner of Social Security on matters related to the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income programs. Weinberg is currently the director of national tax for E&Y. He previously co-founded Washington Counsel, PC, a Washington, D.C.-based legislative and regulatory advocacy firm, in 1996, said E&Y. He rejoined E&Y as a partner in May, after the firm created a legislative services division in its tax practice called Washington Council Ernst & Young. In addition, Weinberger served as chief of staff and counsel to the President's 1994 Bi-partisan Commission on Entitlement and Tax Reform. Weinberger also served as chief tax and budget counsel to Senator John Danforth. He was also a commissioner of the National Commission on Retirement Policy and an advisor to the National Commission on Economic Growth and Tax Reform (the Kemp Commission) in 1995. -- SmartPros News Staff Send comments to information@smartpros.com |
