Grant Thornton Taps William Schultz as CFO

CHICAGO, March 8, 2001 (SmartPros) It's been a busy week for Grant Thornton -- the $326 million accounting firm got a new chief executive and a new chief financial officer in the same week.

William E. Schultz

Grant Thornton announced that William E. Schultz has been named as chief financial officer. He replaces Scott Reed, who retired from the firm, according to spokesman John Koegel. Reed served as CFO since 1996.

Schultz, 55, joined the firm March 5, one day before GT chief executive Dom Esposito stepped down at the request of the firm's executive committee (see Grant Thornton Chief Steps Down). Edward E. Nusbaum will serve as interim executive partner while the firm searches for a permanent executive partner and chief executive officer.

In his new post, Schultz will oversee the finance and accounting, information technology, and administrative functions. He joins GT from management consulting firm A.T. Kearney Inc., where he most recently served as a partner and chief financial officer.

Prior to joining A.T. Kearney in 1980, Schultz also held senior financial positions with Inolex Corp., a subsidiary of American Can Corp.; Hollymatic Corp., a publicly owned manufacturing company; and MGD Graphics Systems, a division of Rockwell International, according to the firm.
