The school's Center for Accounting Education (CAE), which is sponsored by national accounting firms as well as professional organizations, will hold the event June 22-27 in Chantilly, Virg.

The program, part of CAE's comprehensive effort to advance African-Americans in the accounting profession, targets young professionals early in their careers and helps them to increase their confidence and competence, and to pass the CPA exam.

Accounting firms from around the nation are invited to register their African-American young professionals, with one year or less experience. For a modest fee, participants will be immersed in a six-day experience led and instructed by prominent educators and practitioners. The program will give them exposure to expertise and education that can help them pass the CPA exam.

The week-long program consists of sessions like "Getting off to the Right Start," "Career Ownership & Planning" and "Building Support & Alliances," which are all designed to help young accountants make their mark and succeed in the workplace. Other segments include hands-on CPA exam training sessions.

This year, there are two new sessions, "How To Handle Difficult People & Situations" and "An Open Discussion with Frank Ross," who is the director of the CAE and former area managing partner for audit and assurance services for the mid-Atlantic area and managing partner for the D.C. office of KPMG. The sessions will be facilitated by representatives from the Big Four firms and the National Association of Black Accounts (NABA). The program concludes on Friday morning with a motivational session hosted by motivational speaker Willie Jolley.
