AICPA to Host GAAP Codification Webcast May 12, 2008 (SmartPros) The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is hosting a free Webcast on Thursday about the Financial Accounting Standards Board's new codification of generally accepted accounting principles. The Webcast is intended to familiarize AICPA members with the FASB's GAAP Codification, which reorganizes more than 2,000 pronouncements into roughly 90 topics to make GAAP easier to use and understand. Benefits include quicker research of authoritative GAAP literature, a reduced risk of non-compliance, real-time updates as new standards are released and an authoritative source of literature for XBRL taxonomy. The Webcast will air Thursday, May 15, 2:00 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. ET. Registration is limited to the first 5,000 registrants. One continuing professional education credit will be offered to participants viewing the Webcast, "Understanding FASB's Accounting Standards Codification." CPAs are encouraged to use the Codification at no charge during its verification period which ends in January 2009. Once adopted, it will be the sole source of non-SEC authoritative GAAP.
