CPA Net
The Place to Start
www.cpanet.com

(April 11, 2000) - CPAnet bills itself as an online resource and community for accounting professionals. The site lives up to that promise, providing a vast amount of information and resources in a clean-cut format.

A News banner near the top of the screen provides links to articles like Where Have All The Accountants Gone?, Panel Backs Net Tax Ban - Sort Of and Client Ban For Deloitte Trader. The articles are gleaned from online resources like the Electronic Accountant, Business Week, Zdnet - CPAnet brings the best information together to one easy-to-access spot. The CPA News Archive is also available, although at this time it is not very extensive.

This, however is just a fraction of the news available on the site. In the Information area, CPA Newsflash is the user's connection to the latest on everything from the advertising industry to venture capital. Also featured here: business and economic news, industry news, government issues and legal information… all taken from newspapers, magazines, online resources and other sources from around the world.

If the News section is the meat of the site… the Zones are the potatoes. This section of the site is an astounding collection of resources to make the accountant's job easier. Users simply choose a category: Accounting, Assurance, Audit, Consulting, Finance, Financial Planning or Tax and a volume of resources are at their fingertips. For example, under the Tax category, there is a list of 18 sub categories including: Articles, Books, Companies, Directories, General Taxation Resources, Legal Resources, News and much more. A click on General Taxation Resources brings up another list of subcategories, enabling the user to narrow down his or her search for information. Finally, the user receives a list of resources, and information on how to obtain them.

The Resources section of the site helps the CPA find information to help his or her career and practice. CPA exam and CPE information is also found here. In addition, the site features a Community area, with a forum, firm directory and CPAnet membership information.

The site is not without problems. Some of the links are either outdated or just plain broken and the home page does feel a bit cramped. However, it is well organized. Everything fits on one page - no need to scroll down - and each section of the site is easily accessible from the home page. Overall, this site has far more pluses than minuses and should prove quite valuable to accounting and finance professionals.
